SPHERE OF CONCERN VS. SPHERE OF INFLUENCE
After the show, I was talking to a good friend of mine. He was explaining to me the concept above.
Sphere of Concern involves the situations that you are concerned about but can't really control.
Sphere of Influence involves the situations that you can affect and control.
The book he is reading explained how the two spheres work together. One can't be extremely greater than the other because it's unhealthy.
For example: If you have too much concern over something like the state of the economy, you'll stress over something you, as an individual can not change. You can't really influence it to get going (on you own), so why stress over it? If you decrease your sphere of concern and realize that the only thing you can really do is focus on your opportunities or means of earning an income, then you will be able to manage the situations you have control over.
Another example: A&F had a lot of influence in spreading stereotypes about Asians with their controversial t-shirt line. But they had lil' concern over the ramifications of their influence as a retailer. If their corporate heads had any sense of the matter or concern, they would not have played dumb and innocent like they did last week.
So overall, my friend explained that the Sphere of Concern should always be a lil' bigger than the Sphere of Influence. The key is understanding what you have control over and putting it all into perspective. Once you determine what you can influence and accept what you can't, the decisions you make will be more effective: less stress, more success. And y'all know we need some of that.
