CRANES

Sometime before 10am this morning, an annoucement came over our PA sytem: The cranes will be passing under the Bay Bridge. So most of the people in our office went to the eastern views of the Bay and watched in anticipation. The President of our engineering office joked, "If it hits, we'll have more work!" As the first crane approached the bridge, the lower deck was already empty and the last truck on the upper deck had passed. That was weird. I've never seen the bridge with no vehicles on it before. In spite of that, the 4 cranes from Shanghai made it under with more than the 26 inches of clear space projected in the news. Another engineer was disappointed, "That's it? Not even scraps or sparks!" I think the other onlookers from the Gap Headquarters and the Embarcadero prolly felt the same way.
